THY: As a regional venue that receives an annual grant of one million kroner from the state and municipality, Spillestedet Thy strives to embrace all venues in the municipality in order to bring the music out to where the audience is.

In recent years it has been difficult with venues in Sydthy, but now a new player and organizer has joined the scene, namely Hawkraft Kulturhotel in Vestervig.

– We have an ambition to be and become known for high-quality musical experiences at Hawkraft Kulturhotel. That is why we started a dialogue with Spillestedet Thy early on, says owner of the culture hotel, Jan Handberg.

At Spillestedet Thy, general manager, Mads Mølgaard Jensen, saw the potential for the new venue as a place where the audience can have great experiences in small and intimate settings. The music hall at the cultural hotel has room for between 30-60 audience members.

– The venue Thy has an obligation to support all music genres, both the established ones, but also the narrow and more niche ones. On the narrow and niche side, there are not many organizers who financially dare to tie up with these kinds of concerts. But here we have been gifted a new stage by Jan Handberg, where we have done a couple of test concerts in collaboration, where Hawkraft has had Spillestedet Thy behind, also financially. In this way, you can say that we have been involved as a kind of midwife for musical experiences at Hawkraft. And it has gone well, because since then Hawkraft has started to organize its own concerts under its own name at the same time that we, under the auspices of Spillestedet Thy and in collaboration with the cultural hotel, have planned three concerts for the autumn and more are on the way, says Mads Mølgaard Jensen.

Cooperation

The venue Thy was created through a collaboration in the local musical environment, which includes 14 musical and cultural associations in Thisted Municipality.

– We are very conscious of living up to our name and our intention to spread live music in all its genres to everyone in Thy and on Hannæs. That is why we are happy about the opportunity we now have with a new stage in Vestervig in collaboration with Hawkraft Kulturhotel, says Ove Hegnhøj, chairman of the board of Spillestedet Thy.

Spilestedet Thy also has a tradition of admitting all active associations to the board. Most recently, the association of friends for the cultural hotel has joined the board and is represented by Jan Handberg in the role of day-to-day manager.

– I look forward to the cooperation on the board. It helps to create a common understanding of each other and make it easier to lift things together, says Jan Handberg.
