Dorte and Jan want to promote the culture: Have got several local actors involved

Since Dorte Gad and Jan Handberg opened Hawkraft Kulturhotel in Vestervig on 1 July last year, the cultural hotel has entered into a number of partnerships to attract guests.

Both locals, guests from all over the country and from abroad.

– Entering into partnerships has been the right way to go, both for ourselves, but also for our business partners. In my world, it is through cooperation that we can create development in our area, because by playing together, we can play each other stronger, to the benefit of our guests, our local community and ultimately also for each of our businesses, says Jan Handberg .

Dorte Gad and Jan Handberg have created an accommodation that the guests really appreciate.

He himself seizes every obvious opportunity to enter into partnerships, and he has entered into a number of them since last summer – and more are on the way.

– If we are to be interesting to our guests, then we must be able to offer them a package of experiences when they visit us. We have to take them by the hand, so to speak, and guide them to the experiences they demand. In this way, we create happy guests who come home with good experiences from our area, he says.

Hawkraft Kulturhotel is set up in a cultural-historical setting in the old hospital in Vestervig, and precisely culture and the local nature with the fjord, the sea and the wilderness in the national park are the main elements for the cultural hotel’s offer to guests and naturally rub off on the partnerships that have been entered into.

Water sports and hiking

Water sports and hiking belong to those partnerships.

In addition to establishing its own destination company, Hawkraft Surf House, which in collaboration with Surf Pro Cold Hawaii will offer facilities for teaching, shops and accommodation in and around the Krik Surf Spot in Cold Hawaii Inland, the cultural hotel collaborates with a number of other local water sports players.

The location-bound nature helps to attract guests.

On hiking, the cultural hotel collaborates with Vesterhavscaminoen to offer accommodation, breakfast and packed lunches to the expected 1,200 hikers who will walk the route from Agger to Vigsø in 2024. Through vandreophold.dk, the cultural hotel is also accommodation in Thy and offers free hiking tours with maps and guiding on the mobile phone on trails in the Village cluster Vestervig-Krik-Agger.

– For hikers, we can also soon offer multi-day trips in the wilderness in collaboration with actors in the National Park. It will be both cooking over a fire and a campfire atmosphere with guitar music, says Jan Handberg.

Completed guest book

With the takeover of the old hospital and furnishing for accommodation, it has also been important for Dorte and him to create a place where the guests feel at home.

– Although we have only had guests since July last year, we already have a guestbook full of praise for our place and thanks for the stay. What the guests have generally written is that they felt welcome, felt in safe hands and had a good time together with the other guests and us. The feedback from the guests supports the dream we had for this place and almost pays for itself. For us it has been a fantastic journey and we are deeply grateful and happy to have taken it with all those who have visited us so far, says Jan Handberg.
